Job Description

We are actively seeking a Bridge Engineer with interest or experience in bridge design and inspection. As the successful new hire, you will have entry to 2 years of experience/interest with bridge, transportation, and/or rail structure projects. The position is in our Orlando, FL office. Our Florida bridge team provides a wide variety of structural transportation services to the Florida Department of Transportation, cities, and counties in the area including concrete bridge design, steel bridge design, bridge widening and replacement, grade separations, structural assessment and rehabilitation, underground structures, and retaining walls. Firm-wide, our bridge practice provides design and inspection services both domestically and internationally. We have worked on some of the most iconic bridges in the USA!

As the successful new hire, you will work under the supervision of experienced licensed Civil Engineers. You will design and inspect structures such as bridges, retaining walls, underground structures, and more. You will perform basic structural analysis, modeling, engineering computations, concrete/steel/masonry design, create construction drawings, and assist with a variety of engineering tasks from planning stages through construction.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Utilize structural analysis software for design, such as: Leap Bridge Concrete, Leap Bridge Steel, Open Bridge Modeler, FDOT programs, STAAD, SAP2000, etc.
  • Complete design tasks with supervision and learn to work independently
  • Coordinate the structural design with other disciplines and construction team
  • Become familiar with various structural standards and building codes such as: AASHTO, AREMA, and UPRR/BNSF guidelines
  • Compile data and perform calculations required for the preparation of drawings and design studies
  • Prepare cost estimates
  • Prepare construction documents
  • Collaborate with Bridge and Rail Team and all company disciplines
  • Conduct inspections and assist in supervision of site investigations as needed

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering. Master's degree in Structural Engineering preferred
  • EIT certification preferred
  • Entry (with internship experience preferred) to 2+ years of experience
  • Experience with FDOT projects desirable
  • Experience with Microstation and/or Open Bridge Modeler desirable
  • Experience with STAAD, SAP2000, or similar a plus
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171

Working conditions:

The work takes place in both the office and the field which may require occasional extended hours or weekends to meet deadlines. Inclement weather may occur.

Physical requirements:

Majority of work is office based and will require using standard office equipment. Some site visits may be required which may necessitate climbing, navigating unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment. Some travel may be required to project sites in different locations other than the candidate's assigned office.
