Job Description

Moffatt & Nichol is actively searching for a Part Time Senior Marine Structural Engineer in our Federal Way office to perform project management and lead the design of waterfront structures such as piers, bulkheads, breakwaters, shoreline protection systems, small boat harbors, floating platforms and ferry landings. This position will also work with teams across the company on a variety of structural projects related to marine and transportation infrastructure engineering.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Establish standards, design approach and manage the technical analysis of marine structures and foundations using cast-in-place/prestressed concrete, steel, and timber.
  • Provide structural design, perform peer review, and oversee the design of other engineers
  • Assist on Proposals and Business Development opportunities with new and existing clients
  • Monitor and report on project scope and budget
  • Actively participate in the training and development of junior staff
  • Provide quality reviews of drawings and calculations
  • Interact directly with clients

This is a management and design role. This individual will be responsible for leading a team as well as completing design work.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering; required
  • Master's degree in Structural Engineering; preferred
  • 15+ years of experience in Marine / Waterfront Structural Engineering Design, Project Management, Business Development, and staff training and development; required
  • Professional Engineer licensure in Washington or the ability to obtain via reciprocity within 6 months of hire; required
  • Structural Engineering Licensure in Washington or other state; preferred
  • Know regional / local client pool and have relationships that will help with business development; required
  • Experience as a Sr. Project / Program Manager providing structural design, perform peer review, and oversee the project design
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation)
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171

Base salary range:

$138,000 to $167,000 based on years of experience, level of education obtained, professional registration, and meeting required qualification in job description.

Base salary range only applicable for candidates who will be hired and working in the Washington markets.

Working conditions:

Majority of work is office based. Some site visits may be required which may necessitate navigating unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment.
