Job Description

Primary Purpose of Job
The Exceptions Services department is responsible for many critical daily tasks including, but not limited to, processing transactions that fail to post systematically, managing posting decisions for overdrawn accounts, closing overdrawn accounts, correcting posting errors, and processing disputed paper activity. In addition, the position is expected to analyze and research exception items and identify any irregularities.

Major Job Accountabilities

  • Ensures exception items are processed accurately within designated service level agreements.
  • Analyzes and processes transactions related to various transaction reports and applicable bank regulation documents. Resolves issues and reports potential fraud activity to the appropriate branches and/or departments accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Responds to inquiries efficiently and effectively on the phone, through email and writing to customers, ASB employees and business partners.
  • Identifies process improvement opportunities; participates in special projects within the department.
  • Assists with the development and refinement of internal procedures and other resources.
  • Escalates potential problems, issues or trends to department management.


Required Skills or Training

  • Customer Service: Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service internally and externally. Must be able to keep sensitive customer and bank information confidential and secure.
  • Computer/Technical: Proficient in Microsoft Office and other banking applications. Able to adapt to new ways of working; quickly develops proficiency in new technology or procedures, with little guidance.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication, including practicing open, honest communication with teammates. Able to work collaboratively and professionally with other people and groups.
  • Knowledge: Knowledge of basic accounting principles and techniques, particularly related to transaction processing. Ability to understand the bank's financial metrics and how the department drives results for the bank. Understands and adheres to Regulatory/Compliance requirements, applies knowledge when resolving problems.
  • Organization: Excellent organizational and analysis skills; analyzes and solves problems, assesses, prioritizes, and manages multiple work streams to meet or exceed deadlines.
